It was established in 1961 as an affiliate college of the University of London. The university became an affiliate of the University of East Africa in 1963, shortly after Tanzania gained its independence from the United Kingdom
The University of Dar es Salaam, Directorate of Internationalization, Convocation, and Advancement is the designated office on campus to provide information on application, admission, visas and permits to all international students, scholars and researchers from different countries. UDSM almanac is a book published every year which contains information about the all event of UDSM, the changes of the Event and the tides, and the dates of important anniversaries. General meaning of Almanac is an annual publication containing a calendar for the coming year, the times of such events and phenomena as anniversaries, sunrises and sunsets, phases of the moon, tides, etc., and other statistical information and related topics.
The UDSM Almanac serves as an information source and planning document for students, faculty, staff, and departments, as well as outside organizations. The calendar includes registration dates, class start dates, add/drop deadlines, exam dates and more.

The University of Dar es Salaam UDSM Almanac schedules are available as follows:-
1. ADMISSION LETTERS AND JOINING INSTRUCTIONS
- All selected candidates are advised to login to their admission accounts to download their admission letters and other documents
2. PHOTOS FOR IDENTITY CARD
- Selected candidates who are living in Dar es Salaam are advised to visit the offices of the ID Unit, located at the Dr. Wilbert Chagula Library (old Library close to the Nkrumah Hall), for the exercise of taking photographs for their IDs.
3. MERIT SCHOLASHIPS
- Postgraduate and Undergraduate candidates can Now Apply for Merit Scholarships through their admission accounts
